Although our member schools may openly welcome our KoAm exchange students, the students are only able to come to the U.S. and attend the school when there are host families who are willing to participate in the exchange student program and raise a student at home as one of their own family members. Therefore, it is important for the schools to work with KoAm in the host family recruitment process. 

KoAm provides a variety of resources and assistance to perform this important task. KoAm provides newsletter articles, flyers, student descriptions, and church bulletin articles that member schools can place wherever they deem necessary. Member schools can speak with families that they feel would really enjoy the benefits of hosting and provide KoAm’s contact information. The school’s own teachers and staff often receive the information first hand and become host families as well. KoAm’s Coordinators are available to set up a booth or give presentations at school or church events; such as open houses, fairs, concerts, or church services. When a prospective host family shows interest, the school can provide information about KoAm and/or guide them to contact KoAm staff who will take it from there to begin the process of application. 

KoAm receives applications from students and host families on a rolling admission basis, which allows for more flexibility on making this decision for both parties. Therefore, although earlier is better so that students can start school in time, any time is a good time to recruit host families. Once a host family applies, KoAm’s Coordinators will meet with the family to get to know them and find out what is important to them in an exchange student. That way, when a student applies that fits the bill, KoAm will be able to match them right away. KoAm tries its best to match the most fitting student to a good host family by getting to know each party before finalizing a match.
