Program Length

KoAm's Student Exchange Program is usually held during the regular school year and is one academic year long, beginning in August or September and concluding in May or June of the following year. Most of the KoAm students arrive about one week to a few days before school starts in August and go back home within one week of the completion of the school year.

However, with years of operation that added variety of experiences and cases, KoAm has adopted a rolling admission policy where students may be accepted during the school year as well. A late applicant may arrive after the school start date but go back home at the end of the school year with other students. Therefore, depending on when the students arrive, the length of the stay also will vary. 

A portion of students arrive in January, at the beginning of the second semester in U.S. Schools. Korea’s academic year starts in March, instead of August, and the classes finish in December. Therefore, January and February in Korea are long winter vacation months. Thus, some students prefer to start an exchange program at the end of the Korean school year and when the vacation starts in January or February. Most of these students will stay in America until the end of our school year. 

KoAm also has a small number of students participating in the short-visit program. They will come during the winter vacation months of January or February and stay for 8 to 12 weeks. Even though the program has an end date, the program is not over when the student returns to Korea. Building a long-lasting global relationship is one of the priceless benefits of participating in KoAm's exchange program. KoAm recommends both American and Korean families remain in touch by communicating beyond the end of the exchange program.
