Accepting a KoAm exchange student to your school is a very rewarding experience for the school and your students. KoAm appreciates your interest in our programs, and we will do our best to assist and support your school to have the best experience possible through our programs. The following is the procedure for becoming a member school.
Email administrator@koameduall.org or call 800-521-6640 for information on KoAm's exchange programs. Our area coordinator will come out to visit/tour the school and discuss the feasibility of working with KoAm.
Once the school and KoAm agrees to work together, KoAm will provide articles and flyers that can go out to the school newsletter so that your school community is aware about the availability of KoAm's student exchange programs. Include your school’s church/parish congregation. KoAm’s coordinator may hold an informational seminar at the school or set up a booth during the school's open house. Meanwhile, KoAm will start marketing your school to Korean families and prospective exchange students in Korea.
Once the information is out there and families are aware of the presence of KoAm's exchange program, encourage families to host and discuss the benefits of hosting and supporting an international environment at your school. You may want to utilize your school website, newsletters, and parents association. When any family shows interest, simply refer them to KoAm. Some families will contact KoAm directly from the contact info at the Newsletter articles. KoAm will ask school for reference to ensure the family is a good member of the school community. From here, KoAm will guide the families throughout the whole exchange process.
Once KoAm has a student who is a good match to the school, we will send the student's complete profile for school's acceptance along with the potential family for the student. KoAm honors the school's opinion on the match. If you prefer to accept the student into your school before a host family is matched, we'll provide the student's profile first to the school and then the search for a family.
Our exchange student comes to the U.S. under the student (F-1) visa program. KoAm will provide the necessary information to your school so that you may issue the I-20. Once the I-20 is issued and sent to Korea, the exchange student will take the I-20 to the American Embassy and obtain the visa to come to the United States.
Your student finally arrives! The host families greet their student at the airport along with our area coordinator. KoAm will provide a Teacher's Guide to your school to prepare and aide in the cultural exchange of welcoming a student to your school and classroom. KoAm is available 7 days a week to answer questions or address any concerns that may arise. You will be richly rewarded with wonderful experience of having an international student from across the globe!
