Many families join our program to share the blessings of God. They have the loving heart, a willingness to welcome the student to the new country and into their home by making him or her feel like a true member of the family. The students learn to live in the Christian lifestyles. 

Most KoAm host families have one or more of their children attending the same school as the exchange student, or have someone in the family working in the participating school. Host families are familiar with the school rules, on-going school activities, and are able to commute to the school together. This makes the experience easier for both the host family and the exchange student. Having a new brother or sister to go home with also provides both children with more opportunity for learning. 

Some families are members of the church or parish that supports the school where the KoAm students attend. Their children may have already graduated or they are attending other schools in the area. They are willing to learn and familiarize themselves with the school rules and regulations and ongoing school activities so that the KoAm students can be a full participant of the school. Since the students are here to learn the American culture and language, the family needs to be native English speakers in the home. 

A successful host family is a family with the willingness to learn, grow and expand their horizon. The ability to recognize cultural differences as neither good nor bad, but different - is important as they will encounter lots of differences as well as similarities. They emphasize strong family values and educational experiences. As this new member of your family experiences new surroundings and day-to-day activities, you may find a new way of looking at those things you often took for granted. Realizing that someone from the other side of the globe sees your everyday life and house rules with a different perspective may surprise and delight you.
